Bitstrom.Any source. Any player. Nothing in between.
A remote control for home audio. It finds internet radio, podcasts and the music on your media servers, and sends each stream to the network player you choose. The player receives the original stream, with no processing in between.
App Store and Google Play: coming soon
Mac: Apple silicon, macOS 12 or later. Notarized by Apple. Free, with no in-app purchases, no ads and no account.
Windows 10 or later. The installer is not code-signed yet, so on first run Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway.
The problem
Each player brand's app controls only its own hardware
WiiM Home does not control Sonos or HEOS, and the Sonos app controls only Sonos. Radio, podcasts and the music on your own servers sit in separate apps again. Bitstrom is one remote for all of them, and it gives each player the original stream.
Elsewhere, the stream is re-encoded
Music Assistant, the nearest all-in-one, needs a server, and decodes every stream to 32-bit float PCM before re-encoding it for the player.
In Bitstrom, the player gets the original URL
No transcoding, no resampling and no volume processing in between. Now Playing shows the format the player itself reports, for example 44.1 kHz / 16 bit / 2 ch.
